It's a slightly arresting notion that if you were to pick yourself apart with tweezers, one atom at a time, you would produce a mound of fine atomic dust, none of which had ever been alive but all of which had once been you.

John's bio

As a kid growing up in New Zealand, I loved the outdoors. My destiny, I knew, was to become a great rugby player. But there was a problem. Great rugby players are strong as an ox and fast as an antelope. I was the other way round.

I became a commercial lawyer. I practiced law in New Zealand, the United States, and London, and spent seven years as the managing partner of a prominent national law firm.

A career in law has plenty going for it. I knew in my gut, however, that it wasn't the right thing for me.  So at the end of 1993 I changed course. Since then I've been a strategy consultant to firms, and mentor to executives and professionals. This is work I love.

My book, The Money Is The Gravy, is a guide for managers and professionals wanting to bring more meaning into their working lives.

Recently widowed, I live in Auckland, New Zealand, with my two young children.

(To read more about my career explorations, read my article, From Career Angst to Bliss: An Explorer's Tale.)
